Hi John,
2021 saw the highest number of firearm suicides on record—more than 26,000 people died by suicide with a gun last year. This level of loss is preventable. There is direct action we can take in the face of this growing crisis.
Like all forms of gun violence, firearm suicide IS preventable. And now, there is a bill in Congress to help address this epidemic. Help us tell Congress: Take action to prevent gun suicide.
TAKE ACTION: [link removed]
Representatives Jayapal (WA-07) and Curtis (UT-03) have introduced the Preventing Suicide Through Voluntary Firearm Purchase Delay Act, a bill that will help reduce gun suicides by allowing people to voluntarily and proactively place themselves onto a “do not sell” list. This innovative policy, which was first adopted in Washington state, empowers people who know they may be at risk of suicide to take their personal safety into their own hands.
Access to a gun in a time of crisis can mean the difference between life and death. That means that commonsense safeguards, like the voluntary waiver, can save a life. Please, join us in urging your Representative to honor Suicide Prevention Month with action.
Thanks,
Dylan (he/him)
