John — We need to talk about the intersectionality of abortion access and Black maternal health.

Ever since the right-wing majority of the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade , millions of women across the country have lost their reproductive freedoms. Neighboring states of Illinois are either trying or already have prohibited abortion completely.

Our nation’s maternal health crisis was already a significant problem, and now that millions of women have lost nearly every option for reproductive health care, those issues have only become worse.

And tragically, Black women are facing the brunt of this compounded burden. The CDC reported back in 2020 that Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related cause than white women. Now, with Roe v. Wade protections gone and a critically low amount of abortion care providers in our country, this statistic could become even more disproportionate in the future.

Black women deserve to be valued, protected, and supported no matter what decisions they make regarding their pregnancy. This unbearable and unfair trend can only be brought to justice through community action and advocacy.

That’s why Lauren has worked tirelessly to shed light on this problem and use her position in Congress to bring about positive change.

She helped launch the Black Maternal Health Caucus in Congress. She also introduced her legislation, the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act , which would make critical investments to improve maternal health across the nation and specifically address discriminatory dimensions of this crisis.

Now, she needs your help to get this legislation passed and make a historic leap of progress for both reproductive health care and Black maternal health.

John, sign on today to become a co-sponsor of the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act , landmark legislation that will reverse the trend of the rising Black maternal mortality rate and help save moms’ lives. [[link removed]]
