TELL CONGRESS:
PASS THE DISCLOSE ACT

Right now, special interests are spending unlimited amounts of money to sway our elections — and they can do it in total secrecy. This loophole gives corporations, billionaires, and even foreign interests the ability to gain control over our government.

We cannot protect the long-term health of our planet when our elections and our elected representatives are for sale. Voters deserve to know how money influences elections. Stand up for transparency by helping us reach our goal to deliver 8,000 petition signatures to Capitol Hill.

Friend —

Secret money prevents Congress from taking action on important issues like climate change, conservation, and environmental justice. But they will soon vote on a bill, the DISCLOSE Act, that would protect our elections from corporate special interests.

The DISCLOSE Act would restore transparency to our political system. It would strengthen prohibitions against foreign money used in our elections. It would require Super PACs, dark money groups, and corporations to disclose their political spending and their donors. And it would require those paying for political ads to disclose their identities.

This legislation couldn't be more urgent, Friend. Over $1 billion in undisclosed money was spent on the 2020 election cycle alone. The January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol was also funded by dark money from organizations backed by anonymous donors.

Our democracy needs transparency when it comes to money in politics. Tell Congress to pass the DISCLOSE Act. Your signature brings us closer to our goal to deliver 8,000 signatures from supporters of the environment like you.

Since the Supreme Court's shameful decision in Citizens United v. FEC in 2010, corporations have been allowed to spend unlimited and undisclosed amounts of money to influence our elections. Corporations and the wealthy use this power to affect policy outcomes and prevent progress on important issues like climate change and environmental reforms.

Last year, a single conservative billionaire donated $1.6 billion to further stack the courts with extremist judges, block action on climate change, and roll back the fundamental right to vote.
TELL CONGRESS:
PASS THE DISCLOSE ACT

Secretive political spending is especially harmful to low-wealth communities and communities of color, who are excluded from our pay-to-play political system. The wealthy few should never have the power to drown out the voices of the people in a healthy democracy.

The DISCLOSE Act will rein in corporate spending, stop Super PACs from subverting the will of the electorate, and close dark money loopholes.

TAKE ACTION: Add your name to the thousands of environmental activists who are demanding accountability and transparency in our elections. Tell Congress to pass the DISCLOSE Act now.

Thank you for taking action to help defend our democracy.

Sincerely,

Doug Lindner
