Tonight's Democratic debate will be smaller -- and, let's just name it, overwhelmingly whiter -- than those before. We hope (and need) to see candidates proactively bring up issues like access to abortion and contraceptive care, maternal mortality, and issues of economic justice that affect critical voting blocs like young people and women of color.

We need more than the five measly minutes of air time that moderators gave to talking about abortion at the last debate. Abortion access is a critical and winning issue, and anyone serious about running for president should be unafraid to show their support. And don't just take our word for it: as part of NIRH Action Fund's partnership with NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia, we helped train 44 candidates and candidates' campaigns for state legislative office on how to articulate their vision for abortion access -- including every candidate who flipped a seat on November 5th. Candidates for office in Virginia were loud and proud in their support for abortion access, took control of the House of Delegates. We expect nothing less of those running for the highest office in the country.
