As we welcome autumn, Autism Speaks is kicking off the 2022 Walk season and celebrating our achievements in expanding access to services and supports for the autism community. In this issue of Monthly Mission Spotlight, we highlight the recipients of our local community grants, the introduction of five new clinical sites to the Autism Care Network, our advocacy wins in Montana and the success of the Autism Speaks-supported Caregiver Skills Training (CST) program.

Autism Speaks awards $320,000 in grants to 71 organizations serving the ASD community

This month, Autism Speaks announced the recipients of our annual Local Impact Grants. These grants fund nonprofit organizations that provide autistic people with social and educational experiences, enhancing their lives today and accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow. This year, 71 organizations from 28 states will receive a combined $320,000 to expand their services, impacting an estimated 105,000 people in the autism community. Read more.

Autism Speaks welcomes five new sites to the Autism Care Network

Autism Speaks is proud to announce that five academic medical centers in the U.S. have joined the Autism Care Network, raising the total number of sites in this groundbreaking partnership to 25. By bringing together healthcare teams, researchers and families, the Network accelerates new research, transforms how research is implemented in the clinic and makes quality care more accessible to autistic children and their families. Autism Speaks kicks off the first Walks of the year!

Autism Speaks Walk is the world's largest autism fundraising event dedicated to supporting the needs of people with autism and their families throughout their life’s journey. With every step you take and every dollar you raise, you help create a world where all people with autism can reach their full potential. Increasing early childhood screening and timely interventions

Montana’s Medicaid benefit changes to increase access to interventions for children with autism

Exciting changes have come to Montana’s Medicaid program thanks to Autism Speaks’ advocacy efforts! In 2017, Montana began covering Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) when prescribed for children with autism who are served by Medicaid. But in the years since, state officials grew concerned that too few eligible children were using the benefit. As a result, a re-vamped program was announced earlier this year with a focus on expanded eligibility and treatment flexibility. Read more.

Ensuring access to reliable information and services throughout the lifespan

Autism Speaks and Congresswoman Grace Meng address the importance of the Caregiver Skills Training (CST) program

Autism Speaks President and CEO Keith Wargo joined Congresswoman Grace Meng, the staff of the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center and local community organizations for a roundtable discussion in Flushing, NY about the importance of caregiver skills training programs. The discussion focused on how the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center successfully implemented the Autism Speaks-supported CST program among Chinese-speaking families in their community.
