Friend,
Today is the first day of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is
observed from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. The opening date is significant:
Sept. 15 is the day when many Latin American countries gained their
independence from their colonial occupations.
During Hispanic Heritage Month, Americans celebrate the history,
culture and contributions of Latinx and Hispanic people to our nation.
At the SPLC, Hispanic Heritage Month is also a reminder of our
continuing mission to seek justice for our Latinx and Hispanic
communities, in addition to just honoring them.
Two years ago, our Learning for Justice

program put together a guide to celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

- and the content is just as timely today as it was in 2020. We
invite you to take a look and share with your friends and family.
From all of us at the SPLC, happy Hispanic Heritage Month!
In solidarity,
Your friends at the Southern Poverty Law Center
