Lawmakers, Advocates, Unveil Historic Clean Energy Legislation in Virginia ([link removed] )

download ([link removed] )

Senator Jennifer McClellan, Del. Rip Sullivan, Del. Jennifer Carroll Foy, and Del. Alfonso Lopez joined representatives from a broad coalition of advocacy groups to announce the introduction of the Virginia Clean Economy Act. The bill will give Virginia a 100% carbon-free electricity grid and eliminate carbon pollution by Virginia’s utilities by 2050. "Achieving the goals of Gov. Northam's Executive Order on clean energy will be a win for Virginia consumers and our economy. The broadly supported bill introduced today will reach these goals and has the potential to create tens of thousands of new jobs in the Commonwealth while saving Virginia families an average of $3,500 over the life of the program," said Harry Godfrey, executive director of business group Virginia Advanced Energy Economy. "By supporting this legislation, the General Assembly can deliver an equitable energy system that is run on clean, secure, and affordable energy." AEE Statement on FERC's Order on PJM 'Minimum Offer Price Rule' ([link removed] )

Response-to-FERC ([link removed] )

“FERC’s order is an unfortunate and unnecessary transformation of a limited rule designed to prevent market manipulation into a price support scheme for existing coal and natural gas power plants,” said Jeff Dennis, general counsel and managing director at AEE. “The ruling punishes states that are pursuing a clean, advanced energy future through their valid legal authority over the generation mix. By effectively blocking new advanced energy resources like wind, solar, and energy storage from participating in the capacity market, this ruling will force on customers the cost of duplicate capacity that is not needed for reliability.” Click here to read the press release.> ([link removed] )

Big Business' Appetite for Renewable Energy is Growing, and Solar is on the Menu ([link removed] )

Florida is, in many ways, a state powered by sunshine. From the endless summer that attracts droves of tourists and drives the associated $67 billion tourism industry to the sun-loving crops that allow Florida to lead the Southeast in agriculture, Floridians have the ready availability of sunlight to thank for the state’s most prominent industries. Now, there is another way that the Sunshine State could capitalize on its solar resource – to feed its commercial and industrial powerhouses, producing jobs and investment along with energy that’s low-cost and clean. 2019: A Banner Year for Corporate Renewable Energy ([link removed] )

Smart Energy Decisions published this commentary by AEE Director Caitlin Marquis: "Corporate renewable energy procurement is no longer a new trend. Commercial and industrial (C&I) customers have become an important slice of the overall market driving renewable energy development. While increasingly mature, the C&I market for renewable energy is far from static. In this column, Advanced Energy Economy (AEE) provides a look back at key trends from the past year and a look ahead at what 2020 might hold". In this webinar, AEE’s experts took us through the calendar, pausing to recall the highs and lows of policymaking as they happened this year – and explained their implications for industry growth, now and going forward.
