Dear John,
Do you remember where you were when Roe v. Wade was overturned?
I remember that morning vividly. I knew the Court would be handing down decisions that morning, but still, when word came that Dobbs was decided and that 50 years of suffering had finally come to an end, I was surprised and overjoyed with emotion.
Were you?
Months later, I still marvel and rejoice at the reality that we live in a post-Roe America. Not since the Roe decision 50 years ago have conditions for protecting life been more ideal. But there are those who do not rejoice with us. When Roe fell, we knew the backlash would come—and it has. From abortion activists to mainstream media outlets, some would have us see Roe’s overturn not as a restoration of rights to our most vulnerable brothers and sisters, but rather as a risk to the freedoms we all cherish.
You and I know this is fear-mongering and hysteria. And I was privileged to state this plainly before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary in July:

With the overturn of Roe, we have the opportunity to build a post-Roe era defined by a spirit of love, solidarity, and hospitality. We are committed to coming together to build an America where life—all life—can truly flourish; where we can support and serve American mothers, fathers, and families; where we proudly proclaim with one voice that there can be no liberty without life—without the freedom simply to be.
