Democracy. Racial justice. Health care reform. A fair economy. Reproductive rights. Averting climate disaster. Voting rights.
Those are just some of the big things you and Public Citizen are working for together.
And all of it is harder to achieve because of undisclosed billionaire and Big Business money in politics.
That has been the case ever since the Supreme Court handed down its absurd Citizens United ruling 12 years ago allowing corporations and the super rich to spend literally as much as they want “influencing” (i.e. corrupting) our elections.
The worst of this is Dark Money — hundreds of millions every election cycle from funders who remain in the shadows and can’t be held accountable for the most vicious and misleading attack ads.
It has to stop.
This week, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island reintroduced legislation — the DISCLOSE Act — that would end all secret election spending.
Time is running out to get the DISCLOSE Act passed before Election Day. We need to get our message through to the Senate loud and clear — and fast!
Tell the United States Senate:
The American people — Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike — have had it with all the secret billionaire and Big Business money corrupting our elections. And we know the obvious truth that the only reason some senators won’t take a stand against Dark Money is because they benefit from it. End the charade. Save our democracy. Pass the DISCLOSE Act without delay.
Add your name now.
Thanks for taking action.
For progress,
- Robert Weissman, President of Public Citizen
