Hello,
I was proud to be one of the Democratic legislators to help pass the
Inflation Reduction Act in Congress last month. It was a historic moment
and major win for all Americans, no matter who you voted for, and I look
forward to continuing to work side-by-side with Americans nationwide to
build on this victory for our communities.
The immediate impacts of this legislation are real. I’ve got a few numbers for you that bear
it out:
* By allowing Medicare to negotiate with Big Pharma to lower
prescription drug prices, Americans will save an estimated $265
billion over the next decade.
* Out-of-pocket drug costs are now capped at $2,000 per year for
seniors, saving them thousands on life-saving medications.
* And health insurance premiums will be reduced for the 23,000
Vermonters receiving coverage through the Affordable Care Act, saving
each of them $1,700 annually.
This bill is truly the beginning of the end for corporations’ unchecked
price gouging, and we’re starting to ensure they put the people over their
corporate profits.
But let’s be clear: None of this is possible if Mitch McConnell is in
charge.
Neither he nor any of his GOP colleagues supported the Inflation Reduction
Act, and if he becomes majority leader once again, he won’t just put an
end to our future plans, he’ll try to undo the progress we’ve already
achieved.

My opponent doesn’t support the Inflation Reduction Act, or any of the
progressive policies our state and our country needs. By all indications,
he’ll be one more vote for the regressive, unpopular policies put forth by
Mitch McConnell and the GOP, and we can’t allow their style of politics to
win any longer.
We’ve seen what the Senate looks like with Mitch McConnell as majority
leader, and it’s him bringing our country to a standstill. Even with the
slimmest majority, Democrats have been able to deliver historic victories
to working-class families like the Inflation Reduction Act, and we can
continue on that trend, but keeping this seat Democratic in Vermont is
critical. Without it, we’re jeopardizing everything we fought so hard for.
