Hate in the Sunshine State &rdquo; report on extremism and antisemitism in Florida from 2020-2022. After much work and advocacy by ADL in California over the last several months, Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB-587 into law, a bill requiring transparency of social media companies to publicly post their policies regarding hate speech, disinformation, harassment and extremism on their platforms, and report data on their enforcement.

White House Hosts Summit to Combat Hate-Based Violence

&ldquo;President Biden will host a summit at the White House Thursday on combating hate-fueled violence. The White House says the event, called the 'United We Stand Summit,' will gather experts and survivors and will include bipartisan local leaders. It will also honor communities that have been through hate-based attacks, including the mass shootings that took place at gay nightclub in Orlando in 2016; at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, in 2019, where the assailant said he was targeting Mexicans; and the expressly racist shooting that killed 10 Black people in a Buffalo, N.Y., supermarket earlier this year.&rdquo; NPR:

Florida Sees Sharp Rise in White Supremacist, Antisemitic Incidents, Report finds
&ldquo;Florida saw a sharp increase in anti-Semitic incidents last year, according to a new report from the Anti-Defamation League, the New York-based organization that tracks anti-Semitic incidents and other extremist activity across the country. The state saw a 50% increase in anti-Semitic incidents in 2021 compared to the year before, and Florida had the third most anti-Semitic incidents of any state in the country, behind only New York and California, according to the report. New California Law Likely to Set Off Fight Over Social Media Moderation
&ldquo;California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a controversial bill into law that aims to force greater transparency of social media companies, setting up a potential battle over whether such measures violate free-speech protections. The law, known as A.B. 587, requires tech companies to file semiannual reports with the state&rsquo;s attorney general that publicly disclose their content moderation policies regarding hate speech, disinformation and extremism.&rdquo; The Washington Post:
