Meet the IndivisiCandidates from our final round of 2022 endorsements Indivisibles,
We’ve finished tallying the votes and we’re excited to announce our final round of endorsements for the 2022 midterm cycle! With the addition of eleven new IndivisiCandidates, this year we made a total of 38 endorsements in House, Senate, and gubernatorial races across the country.
Our endorsement program is a team effort and we’re incredibly grateful to the local Indivisible groups who nominated these candidates and to every Indivisible who took part in the voting process. This work helps elevate candidates who have local grassroots support and showcase a new class of leaders who reflect our progressive values and priorities. Without further ado, here are the final additions to our slate of endorsed candidates:
- For eight years, Becca Balint has fought for the people of Vermont in the State Senate, but her work to support and foster the Green Mountain State began much earlier in her role as a public school teacher. Becca’s love for teaching and deep dedication to the young people of Vermont has defined her career, and has guided her in her work to deliver historic wins for all Vermonters. From a minimum wage increase, to paid family leave, and an historic climate bill, Becca has fought to build a strong progressive vision for Vermont and is ready to take that fight to the U.S. House of Representatives.
- After witnessing the violent insurrection and his own Congressman’s vote to overturn the 2020 election, Antonio Daza knew he couldn’t sit on the sidelines. Antonio is running because he knows that democracy can’t be taken for granted, and that we can be doing more than just protecting it. As an immigrant, a refugee, and a gay man in the South, Antonio is no stranger to the ways our systems are failing people. In Congress, he’ll fight to defend our democracy, expand access to healthcare, combat climate change, protect workers, and champion the working class.
- Dianne Dodson Black is a cosmetologist and small business owner, and the first black woman to run for Congress in Mississippi's 1st district. She is running to give voters a seat at the table and fight for Medicaid expansion, protect abortion rights, and defend our democracy. Dianne would bring to Congress both long-time community leadership and people-first representation, and Indivisible is proud to endorse her.
- When Jeff Jackson became one of the youngest NC State Senators in 2014, he got to work reforming the criminal justice system, fighting against illegal gerrymandering, and helped repeal HB 2, the discriminatory, anti-trans “bathroom bill”. Now, he’s ready to tackle head-on the challenges facing North Carolina’s 14th district: elementary schools with lead pipes, failing roads and bridges, and an affordable housing shortage. As a father of three, Jeff’s approach to public service is one that strives to serve our future well, and we’re proud to endorse him for Congress.
- A fourth-generation Texan born and raised in El Paso, Beto O’Rourke’s fiery dedication to helping Texas families and willingness to stand up to MAGA politicians in the pocket of the gun lobby has made him a household name. He has publicly confronted cynical politicians unwilling to even discuss common-sense gun reform, stood up for reproductive freedom, and taken the lead on community relief efforts when others fled for luxury resorts. Beto’s deep connection with the people of Texas and his experience as a small business owner, community leader, and U.S. Representative means that he’s ready on day one to bring new, progressive leadership to the state.
- Few candidates bring a stronger understanding of the needs of low- and middle-income families than Jevin Hodge. Born in Tempe and raised in a single-parent household that counted on affordable housing to survive, as an adult he has dedicated his career to public service. He’s the head of Arizona’s oldest Head Start center, the Booker T. Washington Child Development Center, and has seen first-hand how early childhood education can transform lives. He’s committed to making sure our schools are fully funded and equitable, fighting for voting rights and fair elections, and ensuring every Arizonan has access to high-quality, affordable healthcare.
- Born into a proud union family in northern New Mexico and raised in Albuquerque, Melanie Stansbury is intimately aware of the critical issues facing New Mexico’s 1st District, and the urgency for real solutions to help working families. She fights every day to address land and water issues, food insecurity, crumbling energy infrastructure, and the climate crisis. Melanie has also been vocal on key progressive priorities like protecting abortion access, canceling student debt, raising the federal minimum wage, strengthening protections for workers, and passing Medicare for All.
- Since 2007, Peter Welch has been fighting in Congress to support working families, confront the climate crisis, and strengthen our democracy. Whether he’s passing the Inflation Reduction Act to lower our prescription drug prices, ensure corporations are paying their fair share, and make greener, cleaner technology accessible to working families or fighting to protect the right to abortion, regardless of what zip code you live in, Peter has been a champion for solutions to our country’s biggest challenges. In the Senate, Peter will bring the same fighter’s spirit to carry on the work he started in the House.
- Raphael Warnock is the model of moral leadership in the U.S. Senate. After ousting corrupt MAGA Republican Kelly Loeffler and securing our Democratic majority, he went to work to fight for Georgians and Americans in every state. Senator Warnock has become one of the strongest champions for voting rights legislation, and has also been a key advocate for student debt cancellation, helping to bring President Biden to his historic decision to reform loans and cancel debts. As we face down MAGA extremism in the 2022 midterms, reelecting champions for democracy and decency like Senator Warnock has never been more important.
- Scott Huffman first decided to enter politics when he saw his 10-year-old daughter become worried about her friends after the 2016 elections. He became a community leader, serving on the Mecklenburg County Democratic Board of Directors and rallied his community to speak out about the policies and direction of our nation. An original founder and leader of Indivisible Charlotte, Scott held town halls, raised billboards, and held his Republican Members of Congress accountable for refusing to meet with constituents. Now he is ready to go to Congress himself so that he can advocate for the people he knows and loves.
- Fighting injustice and standing up to violent extremists has defined Will Rollins’ career as a U.S. Attorney. Whether he was protecting working people from corporate fraudsters or prosecuting domestic terrorists, Will has been focused on defending the vulnerable and fighting corruption and extremism. In Congress, he will be a fierce defender of abortion freedoms and will work to pass essential legislation to improve access to health care, take bold climate action, confront extremism and disinformation, and reform our broken criminal justice system.
Indivisible is proud to endorse these eleven progressive champions in a time when we so desperately need representation that backs the ideals of the American people. We need -- and deserve -- candidates who will fight for abortion rights, common sense gun safety, healthcare for all, economic justice, and our democracy.
By endorsing these candidates, Indivisibles have taken the first step in changing the power landscape. Now, we’ll see this work through by registering voters, door-knocking, textbanking, and much, much more to ensure these candidates win.
In solidarity, Indivisible Team
