Jack, the Respect for Marriage Act, a bipartisan bill codifying marriage equality, easily passed the House in July with the support of 47 Republicans.
We hoped this could be a bipartisan breakthrough for LGBTQ+ rights. Instead, the bill is facing brutal pushback in the Senate. Only three Republicans have indicated that they would support the bill, and another, Sen. Ron Johnson, appears to have changed his mind about his vote.

The freedom to marry the person you love is a fundamental right that Americans overwhelmingly agree with. Over 70% of the public support marriage equality. But with the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and Clarence Thomas writing that other privacy rights (like marriage equality) may be next, the threat to our fundamental rights is genuine.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer stated that a vote on this bill could be held as soon as the end of September. With GOP senators grumbling about their intent to strip our rights further, we must take this opportunity to let our senators know: This bill can and must pass.
