As of today, over 500 RGers have signed the redistribution pledge to move over $91 million to social movements in 2022! During the Drive, we want to get to $100 million in movement giving pledged this year, and we absolutely can; we also want to raise the remainder of our organizational budget, which is 95% funded by membership contributions from about 1100 members who are asked to move 5% of their overall annual giving to RG, comprising a budget of about $3.9M.
RG is funded by RGers! This is a politically responsible, values-aligned, and sustainable choice. This is why membership asks during Drives are so important in anchoring our work. Though the Fall Drive is a month away, right now is an excellent time to rededicate ourselves to this work. This is acutely true this year because of a year-end budget deficit at RG, which our team wants to address sooner rather than later. By being direct with our members about where we’re at, RG can make a transparent and real ask of members to meet our 2022 income goals. We don’t want to manifest a year-end grind for our staff, because we know a false sense of urgency is not inevitable.
This is the time to build momentum towards raising our budget so that our cross-class, multiracial, and extremely badass staff can earn a wage with dignity.
This is the time to follow through on commitments to our campaign partners to make the same thing possible for their teams.
This is the time to meaningfully respond to material conditions of scarcity in movements, exacerbated by inflation and the all-too-common donor behavior of moving money on December 31st.
This is the time to collectively, wholeheartedly fund movements.
This is time to move membership dues, resource our campaign partners, and sign the redistribution pledge.
