John,
Congress is working on an end-of-year tax package and we’re fighting to include the expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC). While Congress allowed the expanded CTC to expire in January, this time we have a big bargaining chip on our side.
When the CTC expired in January, so did a research and development (R&D) tax break for businesses. The R&D tax break had been in place for nearly 70 years and businesses want it back.
Chip in today to demand Congress not pass any tax breaks for businesses in the end-of-year tax package without investments in people and families.
Last year, the expanded Child Tax Credit lifted nearly 4 million children out of poverty and reduced the Black and Latino poverty rates by 8.8% and 6.3% respectively for each community.
Congress can’t continue to give huge tax breaks to corporations, while condemning millions of children to poverty. We need the expanded Child Tax Credit and we need it now.
Thank you for your support,

John,
Congress is negotiating an end-of-year tax package, and at the top of the list for Republicans and some Democrats are more tax breaks for big corporations. However, 80% of voters agree that Congress should not pass any more tax breaks for big corporations unless there's support for families too.
We agree! And we’re fighting to ensure Congress renews the now-expired expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC), which last year assisted 36 million families across the country with monthly checks of between $250 and $300 per child. And, we have a big bargaining chip on our side.
At the end of 2021, a research and development (R&D) tax break for businesses―that has enjoyed nearly 70 years of bipartisan support―was allowed to expire.
If members of Congress hold firm, they can demand that the expanded CTC be restored before huge business tax breaks like the one for R&D are restored. That has worked in the past, and it can happen again if we speak out.
Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) recently said:
"I would be very reluctant for us to extend things like the R&D tax credit for business enterprises, without extending this important tax cut for working families. And I hope we can come to an agreement on that."
And here’s Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH):
“I’ll put it this way, no more tax breaks for big corporations and the wealthy unless the child tax credit is with it.”
With prices rising on everything from food to housing, average families are dishing out an extra $460 out of pocket each month. The expanded CTC would help alleviate that financial pain.
Pitch in today to fight for an end-of-year tax package that includes the expanded Child Tax Credit. We’re demanding Congress not include any handouts for corporations while families' needs are ignored.
A new report out this week showed that nearly 4 million children were lifted out of poverty by the CTC during 2021, according to the Census Bureau. But just one month after the monthly CTC payments stopped, 3.7 million children were plunged back into poverty and 2 million more people with children have reported sometimes or often not having enough to eat, compared to last summer, when the CTC payments were being delivered.
We cannot allow the wants of the rich and powerful to overshadow the needs of our children. 59% of U.S. adults, across party lines, support the expanded CTC. We are working to ensure that Congress does not pass any tax handouts for corporations while ignoring the needs of working and low-income families.
Our children deserve better. Please chip in $5 today to help us make sure Congress knows that the majority of Americans support this critically necessary funding.
