“There’s no words. No words to say.” This absolutely broke my heart when I read it out loud.
Those are the words of Raheem Bell, a brave community leader in Philadelphia, when asked if he had a message for Joe Biden during the President’s campaign trip to PA.
Raheem was cornered by four men who dragged him out of his car, shot him in the stomach twice, and left him for dead.
As a Naval officer and combat veteran, this strikes me to my soul at the deepest level. It is impossible for me to not think of the agony Mr. Bell went through being left to fight on his own for survival.
This happened in our backyard in Philadelphia. Not some foreign land overseas. Raheem survived this heinous act of violence, thank God. But countless others have been lost.
In PA-05 far too many new graves are for victims of violence, many of whom are in their teens.
We are burying our American hopes and dreams. Literally.
Where are Joe Biden and Mary Gay Scanlon? As crime rates continue to rise - day after day, month after month - they continue to peddle disingenuous platitudes from DC, absent from the communities bearing the brunt of their failed leadership when it comes to public safety.
Disconnected. Disengaged. Mary Gay Scanlon is missing in action.
This November, with your help, let's send Congresswoman Scanlon home and put an end to the violence tearing apart our communities and families. It means too much for us not to come together and be the agents of change we so desperately need.
The season is changing. Let's ensure it does on November 8th.
