** Whatâs Democracy Day?

Today, some 140 news outlets from around the country are collaborating to fulfill the essential role of the press in supporting our right to participate in our governance. Until recently, it was possible to take that right for granted. Democracy seemed ascendant and stable. No more. Abroad, autocracy is tightening its grip and spreading. At home, the results of elections â and the processes under which they are conducted â are under attack.
Allegheny County is coming off of a primary in which the ability of voters to participate was, in places, compromised â not by an assault on institutions, but by logistical challenges and administrative errors.
