How the Inflation Reduction Act Helps Coloradans
|
Here’s a reminder of how hard our current Democratic leadership worked for the people of Colorado to save people money and grow the economy in Colorado – no thanks to Republicans in Congress:
From Morgan Carroll, Democratic Party of Colorado Chair:
“It’s clear the Democrats from Colorado understand the needs of and care about their fellow Coloradans. While Republicans try to push forward unpopular culture war nonsense, Democrats are focused on real kitchen table issues and providing forward-thinking solutions.”
CUTTING PRESCRIPTION DRUG COSTS:
Americans pay two to three times what citizens of other countries pay for prescription drugs. For some drugs, U.S. prices are even higher than that. The IRA will:
- Cap 19,000 Coloradans' out-of-pocket costs at $2,000 and, for the first time, all 701,000 Coloradans with Medicare Part D will have the peace of mind of knowing their pharmacy costs are capped.
- Colorado was the first state to cap insulin at $35 per month and now that model is used in the IRA to help the rest of the country.
- Allows Medicare to negotiate some high-cost prescription drug prices, which will bring down the out-of-pocket costs of these drugs for Colorado Medicare beneficiaries.
- Requires companies to pay Medicare a rebate if they increase drug prices faster than inflation, which will further reduce out-of-pocket costs for Colorado Medicare beneficiaries.
LOCKING IN LOWER HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUMS AND EXPANDING COVERAGE:
Since their creation in 2014, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces and premium tax credits have played a critical role in providing affordable, quality health insurance coverage for people who don’t get health insurance through their jobs. As the ACA’s major coverage expansions took effect, the share of Coloradans without health insurance fell by 47 percent.
- This means roughly 42,000 more Coloradans will have health insurance next year.
- About 160,000 Coloradans will save hundreds of dollars on average on their Marketplace health care premiums
- 37,000 small business owners and self-employed adults in Colorado, Treasury data show. In fact, this population makes up 24 percent of ACA marketplace enrollment among working-age Coloradans.
LOWER ENERGY COSTS:
- Reduces costs with rebates covering 50-100% of the cost of installing new electric appliances, including super-efficient heat pumps, water heaters, clothes dryers, stoves, and ovens, which millions of low- and moderate-income households in Colorado are eligible for.
- Creates grants to help state and local governments adopt the latest building energy codes, which would save the average new homeowner in Colorado save 19.9% on their utility bills—$423 annually.
RURAL OPPORTUNITIES:
- Through climate-smart agriculture practices, which will help Colorado’s 39,000 farms the Inflation Reduction Act will lead farmers on climate solutions and reward their stewardship. Electric cooperatives, which serve 680,000 homes, businesses, and other customers in Colorado, will for the first time be eligible for direct-pay clean energy tax credits.
GOOD-PAYING JOBS:
- In 2021, there were already 61,179 Coloradans employed by clean energy jobs. The Inflation Reduction Act will allow for more innovation in this space, bringing an estimated $13.2 billion of investment in large-scale clean power generation and storage to Colorado between now and 2030.
DOMESTIC MANUFACTURING:
- Currently, 148,700 workers in Colorado have manufacturing jobs. The Inflation Reduction Act will help ensure this continues to be a great job opportunity for Coloradans by focusing on technologies of the future while supporting local economies and strengthening supply chains.
SMALL BUSINESSES:
- 99.5% of all businesses in Colorado are small businesses. The Inflation Reduction Act will help all 674,741 small businesses save money through a tax credit of up to $5 per square foot to support energy efficiency improvements that deliver lower utility bills.
- Other programs that will benefit small businesses include tax credits covering 30% of the costs of installing low-cost solar power and of purchasing clean trucks and vans for commercial fleets.

Help Support Kevin Priola
|
Once again the Republicans want to waste tax-payer money. Our newest Democrat is currently under recall for standing up the extreme election-dening party.
From Morgan Carroll, Chair of the Colorado Democratic Party:
"This recall is just a political circus designed to distract from the real issues Democrats are delivering on: affordability, public safety, and Colorado’s strong economic recovery. It just confirms that the Colorado Republicans are more interested in punishing independent thinkers than addressing the issues facing Coloradans. Kevin knows who he works for -- his constituents -- and they will see right through this cynical power grab."

CU Regents CD8 Candidate: Yolanda Ortega
|
|
|
My name is Yolanda Ortega and I am proud to run for the University of Colorado Board of Regents in Colorado’s newest Congressional District (CD) 8. Our recently created congressional district covers much of Adams County and Weld County.
My personal and professional experiences have prepared me to represent CD 8 as a member of the University of Colorado Board of Regents to serve its students and academic community. I’m looking forward to serving alongside CU Regent Nolbert Chavez who has endorsed me. Former CU Regent, Dr. Irene Griego also endorses my candidacy. I am encouraged to continue their agenda of promoting equity and access for all students in the CU system.
I have spent my entire professional career as an administrator at a major Colorado university, affording me the opportunity to mentor countless students in support of achieving their academic and career aspirations. My appointment to the Auraria Board of Trustees provided me with the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of the complex and unique needs that exist within the CU system.
Throughout my 35+ years as an administrator in higher education, I have been part of many initiatives that fostered leadership development, educational excellence and a deeper understanding of our global community. My overarching goal has always been to facilitate educational access and excellence for all, regardless of their background or financial status.

I am the eldest of 6 daughters raised in a military family and a first generation college student. My mother had a 6th grade education and attained her GED in her 40’s. My father, after retiring from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant, attended college and received his BA when he was in his 70’s. My father taught me the value of an education and my mother, the value of compassion. They both raised me to be a good citizen by serving my community with purpose. After graduating from college, I moved to Denver in 1972 and established deep roots in Colorado. For the past 45+ years, I have served on several non-profit boards in the areas of education, health services and the arts.
As my background demonstrates, I am fully prepared to represent the interests of our students and the broader community of the University of Colorado system as a member of the Board of Regents.
