Dear Friend,

This week in Congress, House Democrats continued to refuse to bring up any meaningful legislation that would address the multiple crises facing our nation. Despite the high rate of crime, we saw no legislation to support our law enforcement officers or end the soft-on-crime policies of the Left. The same day that inflation hit 8.3% over last year, Democrats held a party at the White House to celebrate a bill that will increase inflation over the next year. As we approach 3.5 million encounters on the border, Democrats were focused on their climate agenda. It’s clear that Washington, D.C., Democrats are not serious about solving the issues that Americans are facing. Instead, Democrats are blocking common-sense solutions proposed by Republicans.

In a Committee on Homeland Security markup today, my colleagues across the aisle were more focused on climate change than addressing the crisis at our border — even after a report was released stating that the number of illegal immigrants allowed into this country under the Biden Administration will cost American taxpayers $20 billion a year. Democrats in Congress are actively ignoring this border crisis because they have no intention of securing our border.

You can watch my response to their misguided focus below.

We need to be focused on our primary mission. We can’t ask the Department [of Homeland Security] to deal with cybersecurity, to deal with disaster response, to deal with securing the border, and then at the same time put another unnecessary federal regulation on this agency. That, to me, is asinine.

President Biden's policies have turned every state in our Union into a border state. Last week, we even saw liberal mayors of Washington, D.C., Chicago, and New York City announce that they were struggling with the number of migrants in their cities. However, instead of pushing back against President Biden's policies, they attempted to lay the blame at the feet of the Governors of Texas and Arizona.

I joined the Family Research Council's Washington Watch to discuss the border crisis and these attempts to blame Republican governors. In my interview, I pushed back against the comments of liberal Mayors Muriel Bowser and Lori Lightfoot who are trying to shift the blame from President Biden to Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey.

The President of the United States — he is the one that has caused this crisis — and [the mayors] need to call him out... These mayors need to join with Republicans and call out this President and demand that this President secure the border.

I also pushed back against the Biden Administration's establishment of a Disinformation Governance Board within the Department of Homeland Security — a group that would seek to censor ideas and control free speech. Often likened to the "Ministry of Truth" from George Orwell's famous novel 1984, the board received heavy pushback from proponents of free speech. Although the Secretary of Homeland Security recently disbanded the Disinformation Governance Board, we deserve to know the true intent of this board. That’s why today Republicans on the Committee on Homeland Security supported Congressman Andy Biggs’s legislation that would require the Biden Administration to provide all relevant documentation regarding the board. Unfortunately, the legislation failed because it was not supported by the Democrats on the Committee.  Below is an excerpt from my statement. Fox News also reported on our efforts to launch an inquiry into President Biden's disinformation board.

The idea of a disinformation governance board within the Department of Homeland Security rightly chills the spines of Americans across our great nation. This is a blatant overreach of the Biden administration to suppress freedom of speech and dictate what is truth and what is fact.

I will continue to work to implement common-sense legislation to secure our border and our protect our nation.
