Congressman Al Green Passes Legislation to Dedicate Stafford Post Office to Late Mayor Leonard Scarcella
(Washington, D.C.) – On Wednesday, September 14, 2022, Congressman Al Green’s bill to name the U.S. postal service facility located at 4110 Bluebonnet Drive the “Leonard Scarcella Post Office Building” passed in the U.S. House of Representatives with a final vote of 397 – 29. He released the following statement:
“Mayor Scarcella was an exemplary public servant who dedicated his life to the Stafford community for 50 years. In his role as the City of Stafford’s third mayor, he was one of the longest serving mayors in United States history. Mayor Scarcella transformed the small, vibrant Texas town he grew up in by helping create the Stafford Municipal School District, establishing the Stafford Civic Center, eliminating city property taxes, and building the Houston Community College Stafford campus. Additionally, Mayor Scarcella was a veteran who proudly served his country as a member of the Texas Air National Guard and U.S. Air Force.”
“As the Congress member representing southwest Houston as well as surrounding areas, including the City of Stafford, it is my preeminent privilege and superlative pleasure to have the opportunity to name a federal building in honor of Mayor Scarcella––a trusted stalwart who devoted his life to public service. My desire is that this post office will serve as a permanent reminder of his service, inspire emerging leaders, and help keep his legacy alive for generations to come.”
