Friend,
Whenever I talk about the need to find common ground, or the work I'm doing to make compromise not only possible but expected again, I invariably get a question like this:
Why do you spend so much time working with the other side?
Or:
How can you work with people that clearly don’t share your values?
As one of the most bipartisan members of Congress, and as someone who has been recognized for my efforts to identify common ground and achieve bipartisan results, I believe strongly that in order to restore Americans' faith in our government, we need to make government work again. Support our movement with a donation today, and ensure our values remain in Washington!

Still, I understand why, especially in these deeply divided and highly polarized times, one might sincerely question my approach.
The 2016 election is what drove me to run for Congress in the first place, and Donald Trump's wholesale takeover of the Republican party has been both a stain on his party and on our history. Those who were complicit in his efforts to overturn a legitimate election -- or worse yet, violently overthrow the government when they were unsuccessful in doing so -- have no place in the hallowed halls of Congress.
It is also true that on some of the most pressing matters facing our country, we remain nearly evenly divided. While there can be no compromise on protecting our democracy from threats both foreign and domestic, how can progress be possible without identifying common ground when it comes to public policy?
It is not. And that's why I am so committed to this work. I'm running for another term in Congress so I can continue to forge bipartisan solutions that deliver for all Americans. Can you make a contribution to our campaign before Friday?

Minnesota's Third District had the highest voter turnout and highest Census return rate in the country. We are a civically engaged, socially responsible, and highly informed community -- and I have both the honor and responsibility of representing each and every person in it. We will not always agree, but that's the beauty of democracy -- if you're just willing to embrace it.
