sexual harassment is LEGAL, if you are a domestic worker.
Caregivers, housecleaners, and other domestic workers are EXCLUDED from
the most basic workplace protections like sexual harassment, overtime pay,
and paid sick leave.
It means millions of Black, Latinx, and Asian immigrant women are often in
the position of praying that employers do the right thing every time they
enter a home.
Our friends at the National Domestic Workers Alliance are at the forefront
to fix these injustices. With days until their 15th anniversary, they’re
ramping up their campaign to pass a National Domestic Workers Bill of
Rights.

In the 1930s when most workers were given basic workplace rights by
Congress, farm workers and domestic workers – the majority of whom were
Black – were deliberately left out.
Now thanks to the relentless leadership of the incredible domestic workers
who are part of the National Domestic Workers Alliance around the country,
ten states and two major cities have passed domestic workers' bills of
rights or protections.
But with 2.2 million domestic workers around the country, that leaves far
too many low-paid women of color vulnerable to exploitation.
The National Domestic Worker Bill of Rights covers major gaps by including
domestic workers in common workplace protections like freedom from sexual
harassment, paid overtime, paid sick days, and safe and healthy working
conditions – and it’ll ensure these rights aren’t just on paper, but that
they can be enforced and implemented.
