96 Governor J. B. Pritzker signed the grossly misnamed SAFE-T Act into
law, and it will go into effect on January 1. This bill completely
overhauls our criminal justice system and endangers Illinoisans in the
process. The SAFE-T Act, or more accurately, the Unsafe Act, ends cash
bail in Illinois, making us the first state in the country to do so.
Democrats argue that it’s unfair to hold someone in jail because they
don’t have the funds to post bail. But what is truly unfair is how
innocent Illinoisans will be put in harm’s way as dangerous criminals
will now be set free in our neighborhoods because of this bill.
Lauren Underwood refuses to tell voters where she stands and continues
to vote with defund-the-police extremists like AOC and the squad, while
our families are put in danger by reckless left-wing policies. She has
even been campaigning with anti-police radical State Rep. Delia Ramirez.
Abolishing cash bail means that any suspected criminal currently
sitting in jail awaiting trial will be let out beginning January 1,
2023. It means that people facing charges for violent offenses like
fatal DUIs, drug distribution, or kidnapping (just to name a few) will
all be scot-free until their trial date. The elimination of cash bail
means that the criteria for arresting a suspected criminal will be more
difficult to meet, forcing police officers to arrest less suspects out
of fear of punishment, essentially handcuffing them from performing the
duties of their career.
This directly jeopardizes the safety of every
man, woman, and child across our state.
This is the Democrat agenda,
and this is the party of Lauren Underwood. She does not care about your
safety or your family’s safety. She does not care about upholding the
rule of law, but rather actively seeks to undermine it.
The Unsafe
Act is a threat to our home, and unless we vote out Lauren Underwood and
her Democrat friends in November, Illinois families shouldn’t expect the
chaos and crime to subside any time soon.
