18 years ago, the 1994 federal Assault Weapons Ban was enacted. In the years following, we learned an important lesson from this law: sensible gun control measures save lives.
While federal action has failed to address the escalation of gun violence in our country for nearly 30 years, Washington Senate Democrats are taking action.
Just this year, our Democratic-led State Legislature passed 4 pieces of legislation to curb and prevent gun violence in Washington State.
These laws prohibit openly carried firearms at ballot counting sites and school board meetings, prohibit the sale of high-capacity magazines, restrict untraceable “ghost guns,” and keep guns out of the hands of abusers.
While our majority is making important progress, we know our work is not done. Add your name to join us in calling for continued gun violence prevention action!
Washington Democrats are leading the fight to keep our communities safe from the scourge of gun violence.
We’ve accomplished so much at the state level, in the absence of federal gun safety action, but there’s still more work to do.
Let’s keep working towards a future where no Washingtonian has to endure the trauma of losing a loved one to senseless gun violence.
Sign on to join the work ahead to prevent gun violence in our communities!
Thanks for being a part of this important movement.
