Today we did a big thing. This morning, our 501c4, Project ID Action Fund, introduced a bill to Congress. The first bill of its kind. A bill to establish a free Federal ID for all Americans. This. Is. Huge. This is what we have dreamt about and worked for from day one. This is everything.
Led by the incredible Representatives Sean Casten and Cori Bush, the IDs for an Inclusive Democracy Act (isn’t that the best name ever) will ensure that every American over 14 can get the ID they need to change their lives for free. In every state. And they won’t even have to go to the DMV. They’ll be able to get their ID at the Post Office, the library, even qualified local organizations. This changes everything.
Imagine 21 million American adults having access to the ID they need for jobs, housing, health care, and more. Imagine no more veterans sleeping on the streets because they don’t have the ID they need for shelter. Imagine no more mothers living in cars with their children because they don’t have the ID they need to get a job. Imagine no more seniors dying of cancer because they don’t have the ID they need for health care. Imagine everyone in every state never having to worry about having an ID again. We did imagine it. And now we’re doing it.
