My roots are planted deeply in the soil of Alabama’s Black Belt. I learned my love for public service at my mother’s knee while she served as Selma’s first Black councilwoman, and it’s her example that keeps pushing me to work hard for the community I call home.

Today, I walk the halls of Congress as an Alabamian who loves our democracy and will do everything to defend it. It is easily one of the greatest honors of my life.

It’s because of my roots that I’m able to fight as hard as I do for Alabama. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without standing on the shoulders of trailblazers like my mother. I wouldn’t be the leader I worked so hard to become without the voices of my community ringing in my ears.

Because this has never been about me, folks. It’s always been about the place I call home.

I’m inspired and determined to continue leading the fight for voting rights and protecting the future of our democracy. But I can’t do this alone.

Right now, my campaign is facing a critical deadline. In order to keep moving forward against the GOP, we have to raise $5,500 by tomorrow at midnight . Will you chip in anything you can to help meet our goal?
