This Week at CMD

The Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) published a piece yesterday exposing a MAGA election-denial group that is grooming members of Congress and their staffers for the American First movement, sometimes paying for their travel and accommodations.

Flush with Trump cash and led by insurrectionists under investigation for trying to overturn the 2020 election, the Conservative Partnership Institute has held at least four training sessions for dozens of GOP members of Congress and their staffers so far this year on broad range of topics, from “election integrity” and building an “American First movement” and state “Freedom Caucuses” to trainings on “effective oversight” and “Senate Procedure & Strategy.”

• CMD filed a complaint in Montana against RJ Johnson and his new dark money groups. Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s infamous dark-money man is up to his tricks again, this time forming two super PACs and a dummy c4 at a fake address in Arizona in order to fund more than $1 million in independent expenditures by a far-right group that wants to rewrite the U.S. Constitution.
• Dozens of ESG Companies are Bankrolling Anti-ESG Attorneys General. A CMD investigation identified more than two dozen major U.S. companies that are publicly committed to transitioning to renewables yet have recently donated large amounts of campaign cash to the Republican Attorneys General Association, which is weaponizing public offices to prevent action on climate change.
• Charles Koch’s Political Influence Machine is Rebranding Itself…Again.
• A subsidiary of Koch Industries facing layoffs in Wisconsin makes the plastic cartridges for JUUL e-cigarettes. 

The Thomas More Society and Other Outside Groups’ Influence on Partisan Wisconsin Election Investigation

Michael Gableman’s newly announced employment with the Thomas More Society raises serious questions about the extent of the group’s involvement in the inquiry into Wisconsin’s 2020 election results.
