Hi there John – it’s Jodi Picoult.
I’m a novelist, so using my imagination is just what I do. But today, I’m not coming to you to tell you about a completely fictional world, I’m writing to you because I’m imagining what will happen in the real world if Maggie Hassan loses her reelection campaign to Don Bolduc.
If you don’t even want to imagine that, please join me in supporting Maggie and rush a $3 gift to her campaign right now.
But if you need to hear more, I understand. So allow me to paint the picture for you because it is an important one to understand.
I want you to imagine after Election Day and the moment that Senators are being sworn in. Now that Maggie officially has a Republican opponent, we can see that picture more clearly.
Imagine it’s January 3, 2023 and Don Bolduc is being sworn in as a United States Senator.
From that moment on, he’ll be poised to enact his extreme views on abortion and side with Big Pharma and Big Oil over what is best for families. He won’t fight for progress on the issues that matter most to Granite Staters. Instead he’ll be an obedient ‘yes’ vote for whatever the extreme right-wing policies the GOP is pushing on a given day.
And if it’s Don Bolduc being sworn in on January 3, 2023, not Maggie Hassan, it won’t just mean that Maggie has lost, it will mean that Republicans are the majority party and Mitch McConnell is the Majority Leader. Because we simply won’t keep the Senate if we don’t keep New Hampshire.
That means that Democratic legislative priorities will be dead on arrival in the Senate chamber, and judges that would protect reproductive rights would be blocked.
Don Bolduc as a U.S. Senator is a truly terrifying prospect. But that only happens if we fail to act now.
If we all pull together, we can make sure that it is Maggie Hassan – a fierce advocate for a woman’s right to choose and a steadfast voice for the issues that matter most to Granite Staters – who returns to the U.S. Senate come January.
If we step up and help her campaign with donations of even just $3 we have the power to re-write this ending. And we’ve got to.
Thank you in advance for standing with me,
