Friend,

The Biden administration has released a proposal that, if approved, will allow for as many as 11 new lease sales for offshore drilling in America's ocean.[1]

Not only is it dirty and dangerous, but offshore drilling threatens our health and the environment. If we're serious about combating climate change, this is the wrong course of action to take.

But the plan isn't set in stone yet. The Biden administration is accepting public comments until Oct. 6. Add your name today to call on it to cancel the scheduled lease sales.

When they came into office, the Biden administration acknowledged the harm drilling does to our climate, our health and our environment and suspended new drilling leases. It set the country on the right path of making smarter choices to address climate change and move away from using fossil fuels.[2,3]

But the Biden administration's new proposal, if approved, will ultimately create even more unnecessary climate pollution that will harm the environment and public health.[4] What does that mean for the planet?

By continuing to add to the oil and gas infrastructure that keeps our country dependent on fossil fuels -- infrastructure like additional offshore drilling rigs -- billions of tons of greenhouse gas emissions will be released into the atmosphere.[5,6]

This will result in increased global warming and a slew of health consequences such as increased respiratory illness.[7]

Join us in taking action. Raise your voice before the public comment period closes and urge the Biden administration to cancel the proposed lease sales.

Unfortunately, we're already committed to some leases over the next year -- but we don't have to make the damage to our climate any worse.

Fortunately, the administration has left the door open for either reducing the amount of lease sales or not scheduling any lease sales at all.

By showing broad popular support for getting off oil, Friend, we can make a difference that will impact our health and our planet.

With the public comment period, we have a critical opportunity to make our voices heard. Will you add your name today to protect our environment and public health from continued fossil fuel use?
