The AP conducted a thorough review of the statements and positions of GOP candidates who are running for statewide offices that play a role in overseeing, certifying, or defending elections — positions that are, as they put it, “the linchpins of democracy” — and what they found is damning. -
Of the 86 Republicans on the ballot for these offices this November, a full third have parroted Trump’s lies about election fraud costing him the presidency (despite zero evidence of any widespread fraud!).
- Only 40% of these Republican candidates will directly say that Joe Biden was legitimately elected.

In all except one battleground state that decided the 2020 election, there is a GOP candidate on the ballot who has suggested overturning Biden’s win.

All of those dark red states are places Democrats need to fight like hell to protect the integrity of our elections — and several of them are key presidential battleground states. If an election denier wins in one of them this November, all of their electoral votes can essentially be put in Trump’s column for 2024 — before the race even begins.
