Hi! We're back with our first newsletter after the summer break -- although
considering the number of breaking news we received in summer, we should
probably not call it a _break_. Here are just a few of the things that are
keeping us busy.
As winter approaches and Putin continues to weaponise energy to attempt to
break European solidarity with Ukraine, GREEN LEADERS ARE WORKING TO ENSURE
ENERGY FOR ALL. This summer's climate catastrophes in Europe and abroad
also remind us of the need to KEEP PRIORITISING THE FIGHT AGAINST THE
CLIMATE CRISIS.
In the meantime, the SERBIAN GOVERNMENT BANNED THE FIRST EUROPRIDE IN
SOUTHEAST EUROPE. In solidarity, our committee members will gather in
Belgrade and join many more Green politicians from across Europe to support
LGBTI rights.
All this happens while we're already preparing the 6TH EUROPEAN GREEN PARTY
CONGRESS IN COPENHAGEN, DENMARK. If you would like to participate as a
delegate or participant, save the date (2 - 4 December) and stay tuned for
more information!

Greens are fighting for more support for citizens in light of soaring
energy prices
Soaring energy prices are drastically impacting the cost-of-living,
imposing an even heavier burden on low-income households who spend a larger
share of their budget on electricity and gas. As the energy crisis deepens
and Putin continues waging war in Ukraine, we risk a 'winter of discontent'
in Europe.
Citizens need support now. It's time to levy excess profits. As Greens,
we're working to ensure energy for all by ensuring fairer, greener bills,
tackling the social emergency, and targeting the profiteers of the energy
crisis. We need to support citizens now so that no one has to freeze this
coming winter!

EGP appalled by Serbia's decision to ban EuroPride!
Europride was set to take place in Belgrade on 17 September. The Serbian
government announced a ban on the event which was going to be a historic
milestone for LGBTI rights in the Balkans and in Europe.
Mélanie Vogel, co-chair of the European Green Party, comments: "The
announcement of the ban of the Europride by the Serbian government is very
bad news. It sends the wrong signal to the LGBTI community and to all human
rights defenders in Serbia and across Europe. Those marching for human
rights, and for our common European values, deserve full respect for their
rights and the engagement of public authorities to protect them. We cannot
accept letting violence, hatred, and threats win over peaceful assembly.
Everything has to be done to ensure that the Europride march can take place
and that a solution is found. WE ARE VERY PROUD THAT THE ENTIRE EUROPEAN
GREEN PARTY LEADERSHIP AND TOGETHER WITH THE GREEN FAMILY WILL STILL GATHER
IN BELGRADE TO SUPPORT THE EUROPRIDE AND THE LGBTI MOVEMENT."

Sweden: Miljöpartiet de gröna improves election result
Congratulations to the Swedish Greens (Miljöpartiet de gröna) for their
results in Sweden's parliamentary elections, securing about 5% of the vote
and their place in the parliament. 18 MPs will represent the Greens in the
Riksdag. They are 1 of only 3 parties that have increased their voter share
up from 4,4% and 16 MPs during the last term.
The Swedish Greens will have a very strong and well experienced group in
the Swedish Parliament. Nevertheless, the continued growth of the far-right
Sweden Democrats (SD), who have roots in the neo-Nazi movement, is very
concerning. They are now the country's second-largest party and the biggest
on the right. WE WILL KEEP FIGHTING FOR AN OPEN AND INCLUSIVE SWEDEN, AS
WELL AS A JUST AND SUSTAINABLE GREEN TRANSITION!

bottom of the Hanyuan valley in Sichuan province, China, bees are going
extinct due to widespread use of pesticides and monocultures. Three farming
families work the fields worrying about their children's futures. Their
stories reveal a relatable battle: the difficulty of choosing between your

Do you know what one of the most effective and eco-friendly ways to counter
heatwaves is, especially in dense urban areas? Trees!!! Trees are not only
beautiful (whether big or itty bitty), provide important habitat spaces,
and absorb CO2 emissions. They can also play a significant role in helping
cool cities in the summer. [24]

We currently use up more resources than the Earth can produce each year.
But what does a city actually need to thrive? Greens are testing new

Global energy giants are expected to make over 190 billion euros in profits
in the next 2 years, while energy prices skyrocket for the people. It is
time to target the profiteers of the #energycrisis ! People should not be
paying for the crisis by filling the pockets of energy giants. [26]
