Jack, now that the right-wing supermajority on the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Republicans are threatening to go even farther and introduce a national abortion ban.
This week, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham introduced a bill that would nationally ban abortion after 15 weeks. He was even honest about the future of the bill, saying:
"If we take back the House and the Senate, I can assure we’ll have a vote on our bill. If the Democrats are in charge, I don't know if we will ever have a vote on our bill."
We can stop Graham and Republicans from creating authoritarian laws like abortion bans, or even limits on same-sex marriage, contraception, and same-sex consensual relations by making sure they never gain control of Congress. Can you help Daily Kos turnout every signal Democratic voter by donating $5 to help us Get Out the Vote?

Graham named the bill "Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act." There's a lot to unpack with just the name of this bill: First, decades of scientific research has concluded that a human fetus does not have the capacity to experience pain until after at least 24 weeks, not the 15 weeks Graham is proposing. Second, “late-term" abortion is just an arbitrary timeline that right-wingers like to throw around to get people fired up, this isn't actually a medical concept. The sad part is that vast majority of abortions that occur during the final weeks of gestation are because there are serious fetal anomalies, many that are incompatible with life. These conditions are usually discovered past 15 weeks of pregnancy.
Graham's move to introduce this bill oozes with hypocrisy after not just him, but many Republicans across the country celebrated the Dobbs ruling as a win for states' rights.
The good news is that this bill has absolutely no chance of passing the Democrat-controlled Senate. Graham knows this, but he is hoping to motivate the GOP base to turn out for what has become a lackluster election for Republicans. However, this is just a glimpse to what we can expect IF Republicans gain the few seats needed to take control of the Senate and the House.
This is exactly why we need to make sure Republicans do not gain control of Congress.
Daily Kos is working hard to recruit 75,000 volunteers to contact millions of undecided and infrequent voters in 2022–twice the amount of volunteers we recruited in the 2018 midterm elections. We are already over halfway there, too! We are stepping up our game because we need to turnout every single possible Democratic voter to protect our rights. Can you help our Get Out the Vote campaign by donating $5 right now?
