Hi friends,

I wanted to make sure you saw this powerful story below from one of PIH’s youngest cancer patients. I am personally moved by the strength Ariadna and her mother had throughout her cancer treatment and am reminded of just how important walking hand in hand with our patients is.

Accompaniment is not just about medicine, it’s also about social support and being there with patients every step of the way, no matter how long it takes.

If you haven’t had the chance yet, I encourage you to make a gift so that we can make sure no child dies due to lack of access to care >> [[link removed]]

Imagine this: You’ve been feeling pain for months…

Finally, the doctors tell you you have ovarian cancer…

You need six rounds of chemotherapy—immediately…

You’re 11 years old.

Dear friends,

This is what Ariadna experienced after being sent from one private and expensive clinic to another. Ariadna’s mom stayed by her side throughout her grueling treatment, which included chemotherapy every three weeks and hospital visits for follow-up testing.

The care wasn’t free, and the bills were stacking up. But with help from Compañeros En Salud, as Partners In Health is known in Mexico, affording survival became possible.

Accompaniment: walking side-by-side with patients

From diagnosis to chemotherapy, Compañeros En Salud (CES) was there to support Ariadna and her mother—and not just medically.

The CES team got Ariadna’s family food, transportation, and lodging near the hospital—free of charge, helping them overcome common barriers to health care for patients living in poverty. Monthly donors provided the funding.

“The support that Compañeros En Salud has given us has been very valuable,” Ariadna’s mother shared. “I really don’t know what we would have done.”

You can accompany patients, too.

By joining PIH’s community of monthly donors, you can help cover the costs of a kid like Ariadna’s lifesaving care and essential social supports. This steady giving means we can provide high-quality compassionate care, from diagnosis to treatment and beyond.
