Take a look back on our shared 2019 victories as we ramp up for 2020

Reclaim Our Schools elevated the voices of parents, students, and community into the historic 2019 teachers strike through leadership development and direct actions in conjunction with picket lines and marches. The strike resulted in wide-reaching victories, including increased green space on school campuses, better protection of immigrant rights, and an end to discriminatory random searches. ROSLA also won a major investment of $12 million in 30 public schools to support a Community Schools initiative involving parent/community engagement, wraparound services, and enriching curriculum.

Don't Waste LA held waste and recycling companies accountable by passing legislation to raise workplace safety standards and enclose polluting waste-processing facilities. The campaign also supported Athens sanitation workers in Beverly Hills as they fought—and continue to fight—for a fair contract, a voice on the job, and access to healthcare.

The Long Beach Coalition continued to foster leadership and civic engagement by training over 60 community members in the bilingual Long Beach Rising! Leadership Training Program, hosting over 300 people at the 7th Annual People's State of the City, advocating the successful passage of a no-fault eviction moratorium, and leading the fight to enact fair changes to Long Beach's proposed short-term rental ordinance.

RePower LA won final approval of the landmark Shared Solar program, which launched officially in May and now makes solar power, installed by IBEW Local 18's Utility Pre-Craft Trainees (UPCT's), accessible to renters across Los Angeles. The coalition also established LADWP’s new landlord application, which takes the burden of signing up for energy efficiency programs off tenants, and helps them to save money on their utility bills.

Our People Our Ports, in partnership with Teamsters, helped bring justice to workers at the ports by supporting striking NFI/Cal Cartage Express drivers fighting to end wage theft and misclassification, supporting drivers in filing claims and reclaiming over $7.2 million in stolen wages, and building power through new legislative tools like SB1402 and AB5, which hold big corporations accountable.

Fair Workweek LA kicked off 2019 with a public launch alongside Councilmembers Wesson, Price, and Koretz. With retail workers from across the city, the Fair Workweek LA coalition coordinated a successful hearing at the city’s Economic Development Committee on a policy to overhaul retail scheduling practices, gaining the committee’s support along with the majority of the Los Angeles City Council. The Council will vote on the policy in 2020.

LAANE's Development Team raised over $1.3 million in 2019 while honoring top progressive leaders from Los Angeles to Philadelphia. We again extend our deep gratitude to:

* City of Justice Honorees Ann Cohen & Stuart Davidson, Susan Genco, and Randi Weingarten
* Women for a New Los Angeles Honorees Ryan Michelle Bathe and UNAC/UHCP
* Small Talk | Big Change Honoree Chantal Nong
