Friend,
Global population grows rapidly every day— and will hit 8 billion people later this year.
We must set global population on a path to stabilization NOW—we truly don’t have a moment to lose. Climate change threatens us all with flooding, sea level rise, extreme weather, drought, biodiversity loss, and more … and runaway population growth exacerbates all of these problems.
Just consider what these continuing disasters mean for people’s lives and livelihoods.
Just recently, weeks of severe monsoon rains flooded a third of Pakistan, displacing 33 million people. Around the world, sea level rise threatens the homes of more than 150 million people living in areas likely to become submerged by high tides by 2050.
At least 14-percent of all species risk extinction, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). That’s just with temperatures increasing 1.5 degrees Celsius. If the planet warms 3 degrees Celsius, close to a third of all land species could face extinction.
It’s simply devastating to imagine.
There are no quick fixes … but here at Population Connection, we will tirelessly proclaim the most effective solution to so many of the challenges facing our planet: global population stabilization.
You can find hope in this message, as I do, because empowering women and girls—through access to family planning options and formal education—is one solution to rapid population growth that requires no technological interventions.
That’s why I hope you’ll make a gift towards our Summer Matching Gift Challenge today. The deadline to make your gift is TOMORROW, September 15th! Your gift of $35.00 can help meet your fellow supporter’s generous $100,000 challenge. When you give $35.00, your gift will be doubled! [[link removed]]
Thank you for all you do to make our planet a safer, less crowded, more sustainable place. I’m honored to stand beside you in this fight.
