Breaking news today: Senator Lindsey Graham has introduced his sixth bill
aimed at making abortion illegal in the United States. He has drawn a line
at just 15 weeks of gestation.

The proposal, titled “Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children
from Late-Term Abortions Act,” is FILLED with medical inaccuracies, as
well as strict requirements for both medical professionals and those
patients seeking an abortion, including victims of rape and incest. 

A few key notes from the bill text itself:

* The victim of rape or incest, including MINORS, must seek either
therapy 48 HOURS prior to any attempts at obtaining an abortion.
* Those victims must also report their rape before being allowed the
option of an abortion (again including MINORS who are the victim of an
incestual rape.)
* Medical professionals are asked to pursue abortion methods “must be
terminated by the method most likely to allow the child to be born
alive.”

To break these down a bit, imagine a scenario in which a young girl was
attacked by a family member. Not only would she have to endure the trauma
of the reporting process (assuming she can safely find a way TO report the
crime,) but she also will need to be provided with counseling before she
can choose to terminate a pregnancy.

Then, imagine the doctor, who has sworn an oath to protect the livelihood
of
this patient, must find a way to comply with the ridiculous notion of
delivering an unviable pregnancy.

That is what this bill and the anti-choice rightwing are trying to do.
They bring us a step closer to a nationwide ban with every proposed
legislation.

Not only is this bill clearly the false version of the reality that people
face, but it is also an attempt to kick the can further down the road
until the GOP realizes its fantasy of total control
over women’s/pregnancy-capable people’s bodies.

And it certainly won’t be the last attempt to push legislation at the
state and federal level.

As we enter a new phase of this fight, we need your help now more than
ever. The attacks on human rights, reproductive health, and the access to
critical care will continue to grow if the GOP are allowed back into
power. We absolutely have no time to waste.
