Our 24-hour news cycle can be…a lot. With just eight weeks to go until the midterm elections, news and updates are flying, email inboxes are overflowing, and the asks on your time, money, and attention are streaming in at a relentless pace.
I’m here to tell you that there is one thing you can do right this second that'll have the single biggest impact on protecting the future of our democracy: Start a weekly donation to The American SOS Project for the final eight weeks of this election, and we will use every single cent to defeat the ultra-MAGA conspiracy theorists who are running for election oversight offices in key battleground states.
The truth is, a lot of elections matter. There are Senate races that will determine whether Democrats retain the majority, House races that could tip the balance of Congress, state legislative races that may swing entire chambers, and gubernatorial races that will have wide-ranging impacts on millions of Americans. I could go on…
But there is one specific set of elections that will determine something even bigger. In a few presidential battleground states — like Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada — Donald Trump has hand-selected secretary of state candidates who have made it clear that they are ready to do his bidding.
In the event of a close presidential race in 2024, these potential secretaries of state will actively help Trump when he asks them to “find” more votes for him. They have all but promised not to certify results that their side doesn’t like. They will do whatever it takes to make sure Trump and his MAGA friends take power — no matter what voters have to say about it.
That’s why I started The American SOS Project. Our democracy is sending up a distress signal, and we’ve got to answer it. This organization is preparing to fight with everything we’ve got against Trump’s election-denying candidates — and we’re going to be a lot more effective if I can count on your help to build up our resources and power our work on the ground.
