But then, they have difficulty coming up with an appropriate greeting for this time
of year, as we all know.
And in case it wasn't crazy enough for you, Nancy Pelosi is threatening to not transmit
the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate unless she finds the Senate impeachment
trial rules to her liking. Yes, she was correct when she said that impeachment was
vested in the House of Representatives. But the trial of impeachments is vested
in the Senate, and those rules are none of her business. This impeachment is already
a totally political affair, divorced from the Constitutional requirements of "treason,
bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors." Does Speaker Pelosi now intend
to hold back the impeachment trial, which must begin at 12:30 PM the day after the
articles are delivered by the House to the Senate, as an October election surprise?
How many House (and Senate) seats will that move flip to the Republican column?
While I personally do not expect much in the way of statesmanship from Chuck Schumer,
I am hopeful for a pleasant surprise from within his caucus. Time will tell......
