Rural Energy for America ProgramThis program provides guaranteed loan financing and grant funding to agricultural producers and rural small businesses for renewable energy systems or to make energy efficiency improvements. Agricultural producers may also apply for new energy efficient equipment and new system loans for agricultural production and processing.Applications due October 31, 2022. Contact our State Energy Coordinator for more information. 2023 Public Health AmeriCorpsPublic Health AmeriCorps will invest $400 million over five years from the American Rescue Plan Act workforce funding that will enable the recruitment, training, and development of a new generation of public health leaders who are ready to respond to the public health needs of the nation by providing public health service in communities.The deadline for applications to the 2023 AmeriCorps State and National Public Health AmeriCorps Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is Wednesday, January 4, 2023, by 5:00 pm. Featured Grant Award$960K to Skidmore College for Fire Prevention & Safety Research through FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grants ProgramLast week, Skidmore College was awarded $960,956.46 to support fire prevention and safety. This funding will facilitate research relating to firefighter health challenges to develop a comprehensive firefighter health framework and mitigation tools that will be shared with the Fire Service.Our Capital Region’s colleges are the cutting edge of innovation and development in numerous fields, and I’m delighted to announce that Skidmore College has been awarded this federal funding to expand research on firefighter health and support our local fire departments. $600K to In Our Own Voices through Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women to enhance critical services for victims of domestic violenceAcross our nation, too many survivors of domestic and sexual violence are forced to cope with their lasting, unimaginable trauma alone. In our Capital Region, we are fortunate to have incredible organizations like In Our Own Voices that stand ready to deliver critical services and bring hope and support to survivors. Funding for these vital programs saves and changes countless lives, and it is my honor to be able to announce this award that will help IOOV further its essential mission.In Our Own Voices was established in 1997 as a non-profit organization in Albany, New York to address the health-related needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people of color. IOOV provides a wide range of services for survivors of violence, including a support line, advocacy, and training for professionals serving LGBT people of color. Small Business ResourcesSeptember is National Preparedness Month, the Small Business Administration has developed resources to help our small businesses prepare for natural disasters. Get tips to protect your business and employees.State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI)On August 19th, Governor Kathy Hochul announced New York State has been awarded $501.5 million in federal funds through the State Small Business Credit Initiative, which was reauthorized and expanded as part of the American Rescue Plan Act. Managed by the U.S. Department of Treasury, SSBCI provides funds to support programs for small businesses, with emphasis on those still struggling from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and helping traditionally disadvantaged small businesses succeed in the post pandemic economy.Over the next 90 days, Empire State Development will be establishing additional program criteria and guidelines, with formal program-specific application processes announced in the Fall. New York Small Business Development Center (NYSBDC)The NYSBDC provides small business owners and entrepreneurs in New York with the highest quality, confidential business counseling, training, and business research at no cost.The Albany Small Business Development Center serves small businesses in the Capital Region.
