Dear John,
Remember those corporate landlords fueling the housing crisis [[link removed]] we emailed you about last week? Alongside renters from around the country, we’re disrupting their big annual conference right now.

Together with the Action Center on Race & the Economy and the Center for Popular Democracy, we’ve gathered tenant leaders and housing advocates in Washington, DC to march on the National Multifamily Housing Council’s (NMHC) annual policy conference. We’re pulling back the curtain to reveal the corporate landlords behind the NMHC.

The NMHC is a lobbying group made up of corporate landlords that are working to weaken renters’ legal protections and advance their own agenda, putting profits ahead of renters’ safety and stability. Amid an ongoing national housing crisis, too many of these landlords are raising rents, ignoring unsafe living conditions, or shelling out millions of dollars to lobby for anti-tenant legislation.
The NMHC has contributed thousands to legislators like Sen. Kyrsten Sinema and Sen. Michael Bennet, who have gone on to oppose common sense tenant protections.
Right now, corporate landlords are gathering in Washington, D.C. with elected officials and scheming up new ways to rake in profits while people struggle to pay rent, live in unsafe conditions, and risk losing their homes.
Add your name to our petition demanding the NMHC and our elected leaders put people before profits. [[link removed]]
We’re here to push back and make corporate landlords acknowledge the harm they’re causing people. Together with four of our affiliates — United for a New Economy, Working Partnerships USA, Stand Up Nashville, and Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy — we’re amplifying the voices of renters from across the U.S. and demanding safe, affordable housing for all.
