John, we’re just 8 weeks away from the first election since January 6th – which is why it’s vitally important we know where candidates for office stand on questions like:
- Do you support federal action to defend voting rights and make our democracy more fair?
- Will you end the filibuster so those reforms can actually be passed into law?
- And, will you resist efforts by far-right partisans to overturn election results they don’t like?
Every candidate for Congress should be on the record – and make concrete commitments to protect and strengthen our democracy.
That’s why today, we’re launching Our Democracy 2022 -- our campaign to make sure the people running to represent us in Congress will defend and strengthen our democracy. Here’s how you can help:
- Visit ourdemocracy2022.org and enter your address to get started.
- See the candidates running to represent YOU - and if they’ve completed the survey.
- Then, with one click: email, call, and/or tweet at them and demand they go on the record.
We’ve asked every candidate for the House and Senate 20 yes-or-no questions on topics like amplifying small donors, ending gerrymandering and allowing same-day voter registration – as well as comprehensive pro-democracy legislation like the Freedom To Vote Act.
We’ve received more than 100 responses from Democrats, Republicans, and independents running for Congress. But sadly, zero Republican incumbents have responded – even though many of the reforms we asked about have passed with strong bipartisan support at the state and local level in red, blue, and purple communities.
I’m writing today to ask you to do your part to get even more candidates on the record. And, with your help, we’ll hold candidates to the promises they made and make sure they do whatever it takes to defend our democracy. Visit ourdemocracy2022.org to get started >>
The sole purpose of this questionnaire is to advance the issues being addressed – Common Cause does not support or endorse candidates for elected office.
We the people deserve answers – especially at a time when our democracy remains under attack. I hope you’ll join me in speaking out.
