TAMMY BALDWIN BREAKTHROUGH AWARD NOMINEES:

Shevrin Jones
Shevrin Jones grew up believing in the power of education and became a teacher to help students reach their full potential. He has championed bipartisan legislation such as criminal justice reform and ensuring police transparency and accountability. He is the first out LGBTQ state Senator elected to the Florida house.

Megan Hunt
Megan Hunt is an entrepreneur, mother and activist. She has tackled conversion therapy, food insecurity, and affordable housing since her election in 2018, when she was the first out LGBTQ woman elected to the Nebraska Legislature. She recently gained national headlines for filibustering a bill that would have outlawed aboriton access in Nebraska.

Evan Low
Evan Low has been involved in community activism since his college days. Low made history when he became the first Asian American ever elected to Campbell (CA) City Council in 2006, before making history as the youngest out LGBTQ mayor serving in the country in 2010. He has worked to uplift LGBTQ issues such as naming June Pride Month and championing voting rights, and currently serves as Chair of the California Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus in the California state Assembly.

Brianna Titone
A geologist by trade, Brianna Titone is passionate about our earth. She has championed environmental protections; bills addressing health inequities and has assisted in passing several pieces of pro-LGBTQ legislation. She was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives in 2018 and is the first out transgender person to serve in the Colorado Legislature.

Robert Garcia
After immigrating to the U.S. from Peru at five years old, Robert Garcia says the proudest moment of his life when he became a U.S. Citizen. He has expanded LGBTQ health care and fought for major climate action, and his COVID-19 response plan received national applause. He is currently the youngest, first out LGBTQ and first Latino American Mayor of Long Beach, CA and is running to be the first out LGBTQ immigrant elected to Congress.

GLOBAL TRAILBLAZER AWARD NOMINEES:

Tamara Adrián
A long-time advocate for LGBTQ rights, Tamara Adrián is the first out transgender person elected to office in Venezuela. She has been a lawmaker in the National Assembly of Venezuela since 2016 where she has battled for LGBTQ rights on a global scale, including adding LGBTQ issues to United Nations human rights documents.

Salma Luévano
Salma Luévano made history as one of the first two out transgender people elected to Mexico’s Congress. She has championed LGBTQ political and electoral rights, such as instating rainbow candidate quotas, amending birth certificates for trans people and more.

Susel Paredes
During her time as a lawyer, Susel Paredes constantly fought for LGBTQ rights and women's right. As a congresswoman, she continues to fight for marriage equality, stronger penalties for hate crimes, and other LGBTQ causes. She made history in 2021 as the first out lesbian elected to the Peruvian Congress, when she also received the most votes of any woman to run for Congress in the country.

Erika Hilton
Erika Hilton is not only the first out trans councilor in São Paulo, but received the most votes for councilor in the country at the time. She is a fierce fighter for Black and LGBTQ rights and stopped the eviction of over 400 families while in office.
