Allegheny County’s police review board awaits Fitzgerald’s picks

READ
Allegheny County’s new Independent Police Review Board could be a “real force for good.” Four members have been appointed after a monthslong selection process, eager to work.

What’s the hold up?

The panel can’t begin work until all seats are filled, and it’s unclear when County Executive Rich Fitzgerald will make his four appointments. The final seat will be jointly appointed by the council and Fitzgerald.

Council first created the board in April 2021 to provide oversight to the county police and any of 100-plus police agencies outside of Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh already has a Citizen Police Review Board. In June, we wrote about how the county’s board, approved 14 months ago, was still memberless with little jurisdiction.

Who are the appointees chosen to hear complaints and concerns about local police? Read about them in our new story now.
