Here's why your year-end gift to Oxfam is so urgently needed...

Dear Friend,

New reports are showing a dire truth: Across more than 18 countries in Africa, 52 million people are currently facing crisis levels of hunger due to extreme weather, including drought.

Drought means that farmers and families have a harder time growing or getting food. In parts of Somalia, the harvest is half of what farmers typically see. Livestock is emaciated, and food is getting more expensive – in South Africa, there are reports of farmer suicides.

The climate change crisis means that weather events like drought are becoming more frequent and more extreme. That's why we urgently need your support.

Oxfam is on the ground, helping the most vulnerable farmers and their families get through these emergencies – like in the Horn of Africa, where we're providing cash assistance and water filters for immediate relief. But more help is needed to save lives today and prepare for the future.

These families can't wait, so we've set an ambitious goal to raise $3 million before our midnight deadline on 12/31. And we're asking you to be a part of achieving that goal – to help those in poverty today, and far into the future. Even $10 will make a difference.

Please, donate $10 now. Lives depend on it.

For families already living in poverty, a drought can be extremely difficult to recover from – leaving them vulnerable in the next crisis.

If we work together, we can assist communities so they can rebuild more resiliently. One example is our business training program in Ethiopia, where we provide the resources for former farmers to diversify their ways of earning a living and create opportunity in a rapidly changing climate, so extreme weather conditions have less devastating consequences.

When you make a gift to Oxfam, you're helping to save lives and make communities more resilient in the face of the climate change crisis by helping those most affected – those living in poverty around the world.

I know this is the time you might be thinking about making a year-end gift and wondering where your support is needed most. Please consider making a donation to help people take steps out of poverty around the world – your $10 gift to Oxfam is needed to save lives today.

Sincerely,

Fatema Sumar
