A recent Bloomberg article reports that: A measure of US profit margins has reached its widest since 1950, suggesting that the prices charged by businesses are outpacing their increased costs for production and labor.
It’s true that the costs facing companies have risen: A result of all sorts of things, from supply chain issues to Russia’s war in Ukraine. But companies are doing more than just passing along rising costs to consumers. Some big corporations are raising prices to the point of price-gouging, and it’s time Congress holds them accountable.
