Hi John,
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently announced [1] that it is launching a rulemaking process to address commercial surveillance and data security issues. Groups like ❤️Fight have been advocating for this opportunity and now we have the chance to stand up to corporations and stop them from abusing people’s personal data.
TAKE ACTIONCompanies collecting our data often use it in ways that discriminate against people of color, women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, religious minorities, persons with disabilities, economically disadvantaged, immigrants and other marginalized groups. In today’s post-Roe world, this constant surveillance will help target people who can get pregnant - tracking their location and leading to the exposure of their personal information and conversations.
The FTC’s authority allows it to challenge discrimination, unfair or deceptive practices. Launching this rulemaking is already a powerful step, but it is critical that they hear from people like you to make it clear that we support this step and to highlight specific issues they should address. We know the other side will be doing the same.
To fighting corporations together,
Ese at ❤️Fight
