Hi folks -- Terri Sewell, here.
It’s no exaggeration that AL-07 is America’s Civil Rights District. From the bus boycotts in Montgomery to Dr. Martin Luther King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail to the march on Selma’s Edmund Pettus Bridge, our history is filled with stories of the fight for justice and equality.
I want to share a more recent story with you about my district’s fight for equal rights but first I have to ask: will you chip in anything you can to my campaign for Congress?
In 2022, 57 years after the Voting Rights Act was signed into law, our right to vote is still being threatened.
Congressional maps are being drawn specifically to drown out and dilute the power of Black votes. Republican legislators are doing their utmost to suppress votes that could oust them.
It doesn’t matter who you vote for or what your beliefs are, keeping even one eligible voter from the voting booth undermines our democracy. The foot soldiers of the Civil Rights Movement fought so that our rights would be protected.
And as the representative of the Civil Rights District, I’m determined to do everything in my power to preserve and defend our sacred right to vote.
I’m working to protect our rights from every obstacle. And I want you by my side in this fight. Will you chip in so I can keep working to uphold the right to vote for the Civil Rights District?
In Solidarity,
Terri Sewell
