Blue-and-yellow flags were raised in more liberated towns and villages in northeast Ukraine on Monday, as the stunning counteroffensive that pushed Russia into a messy retreat boosted optimism at home and abroad over a potential turning point in the war, and renewed international calls to send Ukraine more weapons in hopes of hastening Russia’s defeat, as the Washington Post reports. |

Maureen Dowd of The Times published a fascinating piece over the weekend about Rolling Stone magazine founder Jann Wenner who has a new memoir coming out this month. While lunching at his Montauk beach compound, Wenner told Dowd that rock and roll isn’t coming back, and that it will “end up like jazz.”
I couldn’t disagree more. While we haven’t seen a powerful rock scene like Seattle’s grunge movement in decades, the music hasn’t, and will never stop. Just take a look at the summer festival series—it’s full of old and great new bands performing for an audience hungry to get out there in Covid’s wake. And take a look at one of the hottest new bands in rock and roll, Goose, which is turning heads and selling out places like Radio City Music Hall. Right under Jann Wenner’s nose. They aren’t selling out Madison Square Garden yet, but my bet is that they will be soon.
