Last month, Peter voted to pass the historic Inflation Reduction Act. You may have heard about it: this landmark bill includes a number of career-long Welch initiatives, including taking major steps to combat climate change and help to save our planet.

The Inflation Reduction Act will help the U.S. reduce its carbon emissions by 40 percent by the year 2030 while ALSO reducing the federal deficit by an estimated $300 billion through tax code changes that ensure our largest corporations pay their fair share.

Fighting climate change AND reducing the deficit?! That’s a massive win for Americans.

Peter and his Democratic colleagues are focused on bringing relief to folks across the country, but unfortunately, national Republicans (including Mitch McConnell and our opponent) all opposed this plan without offering up one of their own. Vermont deserves a Senator with real solutions for the real problems we’re facing, and Peter Welch is the only candidate in this race who fits that description.

Experts say we’re running out of time to save the earth. Before Peter and the Democrats in Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act, there was little hope we’d ever address the climate crisis, but we’re finally beginning to make the proper investments, and Vermont is uniquely positioned to be a leader in this fight.

For example: Through the IRA, Peter’s HOPE for HOMES Program will finally become law. Dating back to 2009, Peter’s fought nonstop for this program that will create jobs and help families make improvements at home to lower their energy usage, slash utility bills, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Because of Peter’s determination, he’s secured a major victory for our environment, our families, our economy, and our future.

Our opponent, on the other hand, supports increased oil drilling on public lands and has taken a public stance against the Green New Deal. If he wins this election, he’ll join with Mitch McConnell to undo all the progress we’ve made with this groundbreaking legislation, and we’ve got to ensure that doesn’t happen.
