Dear Friend,
The stage is set to transform politics in Maryland! We have eight weeks to elect Wes Moore as Maryland’s new Governor and begin to advance bold new policies that will support the needs of everyday Marylanders.
Progressive Maryland has endorsed Wes Moore and is excited about what a Moore-Miller Administration, together with progressives in the Maryland General Assembly, can do for our state in the coming years. Larry Stafford, Jr., PM’s Executive Director, said this in today’s press release: “This is our chance to elect leaders who will work for the people and help change the trajectory of our state politics. We need a progressive voice in the Governor’s seat and we’re confident that Wes Moore is that voice. Our organization is proud to get behind the Moore-Miller campaign and to see the 2022 campaign through to victory.”
Moore welcomed the endorsement saying, “I’m grateful to have Progressive Maryland join our broad and diverse coalition and to help us advance our campaign’s core mission - a Maryland that leaves no one behind, where every Marylander has real access to work, wages, and wealth. We are fighting to put more money back in working people's pockets, to make our communities safer, and to improve our public schools. Progressive Maryland has been a leader in that fight. As Governor, I’ll look forward to partnering with them to help get it done.”
Elections are all about bringing this kind of vision to voters. We do that through direct voter conversations and contacts with Marylanders. Those personal interactions can be the margin of difference between winning and losing. Please take a minute to fill out this form and join the PM election team.
And sign up for our Day Of Action on Saturday, September 24th. We will be door knocking in-person plus phone banking virtually - we provide training so this is a great opportunity to be a first-timer! We hope you’ll join us.

We’re excited about our prospects for victory in November but we can’t succeed without your help.
Many Thanks,
The Progressive Maryland Team

Task Forces & Campaign Updates:
Health Care For All:

Our focus is the national Make Medicines Affordable campaign. We’re building it here in Maryland thanks to our HCTF leaders and a great grassroots response. If, like so many of us, you’re fed up with drug company price gouging and the harm they’re causing please join the fight. President Biden recently spoke out against Big PhRMA’s greed, now we need him and his Secretary of Health and Human Services, Xavier Becerra, to take Executive Action to lower prices. We want to meet with Sec. Becerra and ask that you join people around the country to sign this petition. We’re planning a national Day of Action to Bring Down Rx Prices: October 6 in Washington, D.C. and on line. If you have a story or want to help spread the word or to learn more, please contact Patty.
Returning Citizens Task Force:
RCTF members will hold a voter registration/expungement clinic Saturday, October 22, in conjunction with other Get Out the Vote activities this Fall. The clinic will also be used to let returning citizens know about mental health services and social service programs. If you’re interested in helping with the event or learning more about the RCTF, please contact Kurt.
Progressive Maryland's Justice Task Force, Returning Citizens Task Force and Drug Policy Task Force:
Join our members and staff to hear about the work currently underway across task forces and find out ways to get directly involved. We’ll also hear from some special guests! You must register for this event to get the Zoom link. For questions or more information please contact Kurt or Dev.

Progressive Prince George’s
Zoning Campaign Update: Please oppose Council Bills 91 & 92 which would prevent a simple Council Majority from passing positive, community-centered zoning legislation or from hearing most zoning cases. The bill would amend the new Zoning Ordinance rules for enacting amendments to require a Supermajority vote (8 votes) on the Council instead of the simple majority (6 votes). It would also amend the new Zoning Ordinance to prohibit the County Council from hearing zoning and site plan cases from the Planning Board and Zoning Hearing Examiner. Click to sign and share the petition.
Progressive Harford County
Join Progressive Harford County during our virtual monthly meeting next Monday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. We'll lay out our game plan to elect our endorsed candidates and garner support for the cannabis legalization ballot measure.

State and National News:
Good to see that there’s a renewed push for Covid funding. The White House has asked for supplemental funding to fight COVID and monkey pox on the Continuing Resolution (CR) and Senate Republicans have said no. The senate needs 60 votes (at least 10 Republicans) to pass the CR.
People’s Action’s Overdose Crisis Cohort is trying to get the MAT Act attached to the CR. We worked on a letter with our national coalition partners urging Senator Schumer to attach the MAT Act to the CR and are arranging a meeting with his office.
We’re still shaking our heads at the new report from Americans for Tax Fairness about Starbucks and their all out union busting campaign: "Billion-Dollar Union Busters".
